GITC VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

  • Artist Angels
Are you a local performer who wants to volunteer to share your music and advocate for GITC at public and social events?
Dr. Bruce Robbins, performs monthly at the Mission Hills Wine Cellar and donates his tip jar for local programs!

Internationally acclaimed artists perform in concert to support GITC, too! Thanks to our founding artist angels,
Laurence Juber, George Winston and Muriel Anderson! You can read about more GITC Artists HERE.

  • Classroom Angels
These angels assist in GITC classrooms supporting our teachers in training their students! Here to the right is Eric VanBuhler who supports 1st grade teacher Kim Smith at Dewey Elementary each Friday!

  • Event Angels
If you are comfortable meeting new people and would feel energized chatting with others about our work, please join GITC to help host GITC visitors or table at concerts and public events! Here are Molly Steward (l) and Gerry DeLa Torre (r). Gerry is tabling at a James Taylor concert in Phoenix.

  • Inventory and Office Angels
Whether you are in San Diego and want to assist in our office, or you live near a GITC program, we appreciate your help with instrument and supply inventorying, storage and record keeping. Join us when they arrive at our office or help out after the fact with data entry and writing thank you letters.

This work can include the above or go a step further into delivering or tuning instruments, too, like Doug and Alexandra at one of our workshops in the Los Angeles Unified School District!

Elias Turner and Ariel Solano, did supply and instrument inventorying some days and helped in all sorts of other ways on other days, too.  Yes, we give community service hours!

  • Luthier Angels
A luthier is a stringed instrument artisan- someone who builds  and repairs stringed instruments. If you know how to repair guitars or ukuleles, we need you! Many friends donate gently used instruments in need of skilled repair.  We appreciate all levels of ability from restringing and adjusting action to leveling frets and repairing cracks in guitars. For 2 years, Robert Hein fixed every ukulele in San Diego programs for GITC! If you have instrument repair skills, we hope you will volunteer!

  • Photography Angels
Are you a shutter bug? You can help GITC document programs, capture special moments and share great events if you like to take photos, have a good camera, and like to go out into the world.  Thanks to all the photographers who have contributed to this site, especially the great Michael Maher whose photos grace this website.

  • Tuning Angels
Please help GITC by joining us in one of our regional locations to assist with tuning up new ukuleles and guitars before they go out to programs and classrooms! Rodney Howard (top) has become our Tuning Archeangel tuning literally hundreds of ukes for programs nationwide and helping San Diego teachers when their uke sets arrive. And to the right are Rae Newoman and James Clarkston getting guitars ready for teachers and a party of Tuning Angels preparing ukes for after-school Strummers Clubs in San Diego!

  • Video Angels
If you enjoy videotaping, assisting with recording or you have a knack for editing videos, your skills can help us train teachers. Videos that allow all of us to share "how to" information, best practices from teachers everywhere, and testimonials from participants are very important. Here is a video of a NAMM Show breakfast for friends and sponsors made by Video Angels, Mary & Eric VanBuhler!

Want to be around some good people and lend a hand?
Just raise one! We love to host community work days when big projects come together.

Left, GITC
Classroom Angel in Loveland, CO, Mark Grabowski here is showing a special volunteer gift he got from faculty trainer, Dr. Joan Maute. Mark made a huge difference for classes there and even though he is a metal rocker with the band Corruption, he brought his softer, gentler self to elementary school teachers. Through his training classroom assistance, Mark has helped over 2000 students learn to play.  He also brought his employer, VMWare along and they have donated program support in Mark's honor.

Please fill out a volunteer questionnaire here, or email us at info@guitarsintheclassroom.org. We look forward to hearing from you!
