DONATE ONLINE If you'd like to contribute funds to GITC, there are many ways. Fast and easy is donating to a campaign here at the website. This method is cost efficient because the processing fee is tiny. We also post special projects at GlobalGiving.org. Their processing fee is higher but they also provide bonus matching campaigns a few times each year. Both platforms are safe, secure, and you get a thank you right away.
MAIL GITC a CHECK Contributing by mailing GITC a check is a fantastic way to help. It gives us both a paper trail, gives you accountability that the check has been delivered, and it saves you any online processing fees. These amounts are very small, but nevertheless, when you send a check, each dime goes to the organization. You'll get a thank you letter from us within a month crediting you with your tax-deductible gift to take that to your tax preparer. Our secure, locked post office box mailing address is: GITC 1286 University Ave, #389 San Diego, CA 92103
INCLUDE GITC IN YOUR EVENTBRITE INVITATIONS! This is a brand new option and it is incredibly powerful. Eventbrite gives you the chance to select a charity to benefit when you create an invitation through an amazing no-fee platform called Pledge. Anyone can help this way. You do not need to pitch our work. Simply choose our charity to add to your invitation and people can explore and give if they want to. This has been helping us fund our high school programs this fall in order to get enough guitars for an overflow of enthusiastic teens!
CONTRIBUTE through A DONOR ADVISED FUND Donor-advised funds (a.k.a. DAFs) are charitable giving accounts that grow tax-free. If you have one, it’s healthy to contribute a minimum of 5% of the funds each year to charities of your choice, and the giving is done at your discretion. Your DAF manager will respond to your input. Supporting GITC through Donor Advised Funds can be beneficial for donors who: · Want to create and leave a legacy for future generations · Desire a charitable tax deduction now with the flexibility to make distributions later · Want to grow their contributions tax-free over time · Are holding appreciated assets and have high capital gains tax exposure · Are private about their wealth and giving and wish to donate safely · Want a qualified individual to manage the administrative side of giving for them If you already have a DAF, we can receive your contribution. If you don’t have one yet and you wish to learn more, you can ask your advisor or your bank who they recommend. If you wish to help locally in San Diego, we recommend contacting the San Diego Foundation. They support our work and are immensely helpful. In addition, donors enjoy working with Vanguard Charitable DAFs.
DONATE STOCK instead of DOLLARS Donors who hold stock sometimes choose to give to GITC this way because it can have a positive impact for our charity and for them, too. Compared with donating cash, or selling appreciated securities and contributing the after-tax proceeds, donors who gift stocks pay no capital gains tax on transferring them to a charity. Once our charity receives and sells it, we will use the proceeds to fund free programs and instruments for schools, teachers, and children in need. If you are interested, we recommend asking your financial manager for advice on how to accomplish this with ease. You can also reach out to our executive director, Jess Baron, to assist in the process.
DONATE IN KIND - INSTRUMENTS and MUSICAL ACCESSORIES Do you have a musical instrument or a piece of equipment, sheet music, or special items like strings, capos, tuners or music stands that you are ready to give to a good cause? We will help you rehome these in our participating schools or by working with other charities to get them to deserving hands. Even those that belong in band or orchestra programs can find their way to new homes through our team because we partner with other nonprofits and school districts. You'll be able to declare your contribution at the value you assign to it as a tax deduction, and we will account for your gift at its fair market value. Within days, a deserving student or educator in need will be making music with your gift to GITC. Please drop us a line at [email protected] to share what you have in mind, or feel free to give us a call.
TAKE SOME "TIME" FOR GITC
Volunteers rock! There are many ways to volunteer with us. We keep opportunities rolling at Volunteermatch.org, a fantastic place to get descriptions and connect with charities. If you are a roll-up-your-sleeves person in SoCal, we always welcome helpers to tune instruments for classrooms. We hold tuning parties with our Tuning Angels in Los Angeles and San Diego to get instruments ready to deliver or ship to programs around the U.S. You can help with un-boxing and preparing instruments to be tuned, or tune them yourself. A GITC-trained Tuning Angel can also tune ukes at home. Right now we need guitar tuners in LA and ukulele tuners in San Diego. Want to help out? Please write to us and we'll get you going!
TRUST YOUR TALENT HAS A PLACE WITH GITC
If you have special expertise you'd like to share, please reach out to us by email or phone and tell us about yourself and what you'd like to do to further our mission! We're always eager to speak to folks who have talent to share. Current needs include videographers, editors, graphic artists, photographers, and classroom music volunteers. We also appreciate help getting word out about GITC's work in schools! If you are a musician with some time to donate, please let us know. Kids love meeting people whose lives are focused on making music!
