Ravi
An artist whose credits span from the dives of Manhattan to the Oval Office, he tours the country performing original music, conducting guitar clinics, and lecturing on crucial issues facing the music industry. The singer-songwriter and guitarist has performed on Letterman, Leno, Saturday Night Live, Today Show, Good Morning America, etc., and at the most prestigious venues including Madison Square Garden, Louisiana Superdome, and the White House. Simon and Schuster published his tour journal/autobiography, most major music magazines publish his articles, and Berklee College of Music and others including NAMM (National Association of Music Merchants) and most music business conferences regularly host his lectures.

Why do you feel or believe music is an essential part of childhood or education?
The discipline of working hard to gain self confidence and gratification is a lesson that yields benefits in all areas of life. In addition to the obvious academic connection (math, science, etc.), playing music with others teaches teamwork in a non-competitive atmosphere that allows children to recognize the greater good of working together for the sake of creating beauty in the world.
Why do you like the work of GITC?
Because music is so important to our culture and quality of life, the increasing absence of it in schools will have long term detrimental affect on society. GITC is changing that by filling a void that should never have been created in the first place, but is rampant amongst communities throughout America. By pooling resources and establishing a curriculum, GITC is educating children for life.
What has been your musical inspiration?
Ever since I started playing guitar, I had dreamed of performing in Madison Square Garden. I grew up seeing my guitar heroes take that stage: Angus Young, Eric Clapton, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen, and so many others. Then, my day came. Normally, one goes in early on show day, does the sound check, returns to the hotel, and then goes back to the venue to perform the show. But this was the day I had been dreaming of all my life. I wasn’t going to miss a moment. Following sound check, the rest of the band went back to the hotel, but I spent the entire day up in the “nose bleeds” looking down at the stage remembering all the great and inspiring concerts that I had seen from those seats way in the back. This time that stage was mine. It was a day I experienced to the fullest; a day I will never forget.
