Meet the Artists

John Foreman of Switchfoot signs two guitars for GITC to auction to fund local programs, 2011

As you may have already have experienced at a GITC event, Guitars in the Classroom is fortunate to benefit from the support of very fine, charitably minded artists who are dedicated to bringing more music making to schools.  Some are well known to you, and others’ stars are rising as you read.  GITC gladly welcomes any artist who wants to make a difference for children in the schools to join our musical crusade.

Community and education-minded performers who advocate for GITC help raise awareness and funding for programs. Some message about the programs from stage. Others create time in their busy touring schedules to visit schools, performing for students, inviting GITC teachers on stage to help them lead songs.

Some help us by signing instruments for our charity auctions. The ways in which artists can make a difference are many and the lives their music and kindness has changed already number in the many thousands.

If you are an artist (or know of one) who is interested in creating musical access for young people, we encourage you to get in touch with GITC. We will empower you to create social change while filling in your tour schedule- and at home in your own community. GITC hopes to offer you a number of rewarding ways to help you accomplish your important goals.

This year in the Boston area, a group of songwriters worked on a collaborative month long project with songwriter Timmy Riordan called The Songbomb Project to benefit and launch GITC in the local schools and they culminated the month with a live performance (look right). That single local event is making it possible to provide training to teachers in that region this summer.  If you are a  grassroots organizer or a concert promoter at any level and would like a musical event to benefit GITC, we have much to share with you and look forward to hearing from you! Together we can make a lasting difference for children.
