Strum & Sing

No one knows kids like teachers do. They know their hearts, minds, and needs. They work everyday to help them realize their potential. And teachers spend more waking time with kids than anyone else- about thirty hours a week. Teachers want learning to be fun. Most dread testing as much as the students do. They want very much to keep creativity alive. And consider this. Who knows better how to get ideas and information across to young people? Giving teachers the training and musical instruments they need to infuse lessons with musical learning is the most natural thing in the world!

General Operating Expenses

GITC is a 501(c)3 organization that creates its work based on charitable contributions from generous individuals, foundation grants, and special fundraising projects such as auctions and events. You can help keep our office, and therefore our programs, running strong by helping with GITC's general operating expenses. This helps us pay our employees, keep our office supplied, and keep us looking forward to newer and bigger things!

The AMIGO Project

Nothing helps students learning English faster than singing! AMIGO training prepares teachers of ELL students to lead, teach, and write new songs to help these students gain vocabulary, comprehension, fluency, and writing skills. Help what is by far the fastest growing student population in America love and succeed at learning.

Early Childhood Education

Young children learn almost everything basic through songs but few of their teachers can accompany the singing with guitar. Most are bound to CDs or singing without support. Your gift can make day care centers, preschools and kindergartens into much more musical environments that help little ones develop musically while getting ready for school- and life!

Inner City and Urban Programs

About 78% of teachers who train with GITC are working in schools dubbed "Title I" meaning that more than half of the students qualify for free lunches and are considered "underserved" and "at risk." Help GITC fund a program in Brooklyn, Boston, Oakland, Tucson, Los Angeles, San Diego, or Chicago with your gift for the Title 1 GITC programs in our big cities.

First Nations Programs

Our 1st Nations Pilot Program brings together teachers from two different kinds of schools- traditional tribal schools and governmental schools (BIA). Here music is building a bridge of peace and hope. Schools on reservations lack funds for arts and even for many basics. Helping GITC bring music to this population is a great and just blessing.

MIRSE (Music Integration for Resource and Special Educators)

Students in Special Education and Resource programs often miss out on music. Yet music is an area where many can benefit and excel! MIRSE helps their teachers and therapists facilitate music for these children as part of their regular school day. Your gift can help.

GITC University Programs Help Education majors in student teaching programs start their careers in the classroom with a guitar in hand and songs for teaching by empowering GITC to place a GITC-UP program on a university campus. Student teachers learn to integrate and utilize music in astoundingly creative ways! GITC-UP is working in schools as diverse as U.C. Berkeley, Antioch University-Santa Barbara,  and Laramie County College in Cheyenne Wyoming! Your gift gives beginning teachers the tool they need to motivate, focus and enrich their classes!
