Marc GrabowskiYou might know about Marc Grabowski through his world-touring metal band Demonica, or from one of his other collaborations.  But to the grade school teachers in Loveland, Colorado, Marc is known as the sweetheart who has shown up every week, tuned guitars, and helped everyone out. He walked into the GITC teacher training classroom and would grace it with a positive air. Marc Grabowski has long been a charitable donor for our organization through his work at tech company, VMware.

Marc first learned about our work at our online giving platform, www.globalgiving.org and started making regular contributions through his company’s charitable giving activities. After reading in the GlobalGiving report that we had started training teachers in Loveland, which is an hour from his home in Denver, he was inspired to further involve himself in our organization. The VWware Team supported Marc’s idea to take time out of his week to drive to Loveland and pitch in with Dr. Joan Maute. The two became an unstoppable and inseparable duo.

Dr. Maute has continually expressed her gratitude for his assistance. “I am always thrilled to get help from volunteers.  Whether it’s helping tune new instruments or unboxing or organizing instruments anMARC AND JOANd supplies, every donation of time is appreciated. Marc’s company, VMware, has a program that allowed him to work with us for all classes.  Marc brought his enthusiasm, expertise and experience to class each week.  Without Marc helping in classes I know the teachers would not have progressed as far as they did.  Marc was able to be a second set of eyes, hands, and heart working individually with the teachers. Whether he was setting up the room, helping them tune their instruments, going around checking and correcting hand positions, explaining I/IV/V chord progressions, or enthusiastically confirming their progress and great songs, Marc was professional, personable, dependable, and an all-around nice guy.

Marc was not someone just showing up, he was with us 100 percent and all of us appreciated it.  We all were honored to have Marc 2him in class and especially appreciative of VMware which has a commitment to community and encourages their employees to volunteer, on company time.  We will miss him and wish him the best in his transfer to Ireland this summer. “Of his experience volunteering, Marc recalls, “…what a big and enthusiastic class it was! How quickly they’ve all come along too. I’m proud to have been a part of it, and grateful to know that my contributions will trickle down from the teachers to the kids who will grow up with an appreciation of the power of music in their lives than they might not have otherwise had. Thank you, GITC for giving me the opportunity to give back some of my musical education and ‘gift’ if you will, to assist in this wonderful effort.”

We at GITC are very grateful to Marc and to his employer, VMware for making Marc’sTHOMPSON CLASSROOM TEACHERS volunteering during the workweek possible. His efforts greatly influenced the teachers in Loveland, which, in turn will continue to help influence the children. In addition to allowing Marc to contribute his time, talent and good will to our charity, VMware also recently selected Guitars in the Classroom to become a recipient of a Citizen Philanthropy Investment grant of $1000. Marc’s advocacy was the source of this support and we are blessed to have been selected out of 16,000 applicants! The funds will be used to support future work in Colorado and around the country.
